inexpensive ways to be lucky/unlucky?
hiya!
couldn't find a thread like this anywhere, unless it was mentioned LONG ago and is long gone...
i noticed a while back on guild wiki that there have been new title tiers added to the (un)lucky titles~~such as "jinxed" and with the weekend event dragon festival revisit at hand, i put two things together to form a better idea in my mind.
whether or not "jinxed" is accurate as an added title or even a max title (as cursed by fate is not live yet), i looked at how much money overall would have to be spent in order to achieve this title (such as buying loads of lockpicks--and how many games of chance one must lose)...(im not trying to complain that i have no money, because i do have money, but i would rather spend it elsewhere )
how is one person ever going to get "jinxed" for example, without spending like 10,000-25,000k to lose 250,000-500,000 games? that is a LOT of chests to break lockpicks on, and more than enough games to leave our characters afk on the rings of fortune until gw2 releases.
are we going to get more opportunities to gamble at games? maybe a "boardwalk pass" type of thing so we have the opportunity to go in whenever we want...or is it possible to introduce a new, maybe cheaper way for us to achieve the (un)lucky max without relying on seasonal games that we might not even be in town to play?
like for instance, every time your party fails a mission, you get x amount of unlucky points, and y amount of lucky points if your party passes a mission? and perhaps some more points completing bonus/failing bonus? and to prevent people from farming by typing /resign to get points, have there be some way that the game can tell that the party at least tried before failing or succeeding (killing x amount of monsters/parts of bonus)?
also, so far only four leaf clovers are the only "other" way past lockpicks and seasonal gambling on the rings on the boardwalk. perhaps addition to unlucky that is equal to four leaf clovers?
just wondering how anyone else who reads this feels :P

These titles aren't going to get any cheaper because they were designed as gold sinks. Availability - being able to max these titles in a reasonable amount of time - is perhaps a related but totally different issue. Opening the Boardwalk 24/7 would solve that, but to date the only cheap way to gain points has been the "9 rings" during the Wintersday festival finale.
But, hey, we can always hope that GWEN changes things, and ANet did implement the Lockpick title ties after player suggestions. Then again, ANet does have to keep us looking forward to each new event so we can max titles so we can put the titles into the Hall of Monuments so we can buy GW2... so I'm guessing the system isn't really going to change.
As for your suggestion, specifically, that's already been raised and would be very easy to abuse. Remember, you can always /resign, and rewarding this with Unlucky points would make the title even more of a joke than it is now. A PvP tie-in to the tune of Random Arena wins/losses might actually be a bit more appropriate, because Random is by definition all about luck.

They are more 'inversions' rather than gold sinks.
Increase Lucky, spend money to increase treasure hunter... and then, once both are maxed, you can open chests by actually getting more moeny that you spend on lockpicks regardless of getting a good or bad drop, just by their merchant value.

They'll become gold sinks until you reach a certain lucky and treasure hunter level. So I don't like inexpensive ways to get it, because then once a high level has been achieved through inexpensive ways, the inversion will take place and it'll take even less gold out of the system.
